Golf is game that many of us enjoy, but there are times when we wish we had never picked up a club. Avoid those times and enjoy golf a little bit more with these tips.
1. Walk the course, do not ride. Many suggest that walking is not only the purist way to play the game, but it can also improve your score.Walking gives you a better chance to scan the layout of each hole and consider strategy for your next shot. It is also a great way to get a little exercise. And, if you’re normally a golf cart person, you can save a lot of cash on cart rental fees. With a little of the money you save, you can buy yourself a golf push cart and you won’t even have to carry your bag.
2. Don’t play from the blue tees. Unless you are at least a ten handicap or lower, why bother making the golf course even harder than it has to be. If you are scores are in the 90s or triple digits, making the game more difficult doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.By playing the white tees, you can take a little of the anxiety out of the equation.
3. Try playing different games. Compete in games other than score, instead of playing the same old match with your buddies. Most fairways hit, least amount of 3 putts, or most 1 putts might be some examples.
4. If it’s your honor, take it. If you just birdied the hardest (or easiest) hole on the golf course, it’s your tee, you earned it. Challenge yourself to get another one; you will be surprised how often you can have two birdies in a row if you are actually trying to get two birdies in a row.
5. Improve your position. When you are playing a recreational round of golf, it isn’t necessary to play by the strict rules of golf. The average round would be at least 6 hours at courses all over the world, if everyone played by these rules. Golfers would be looking for every lost ball for 5 minutes and returning to the tees all day after hitting there first ball out bounds. So if we are bending the rules to save time, why not bend them to improve your lie, something you can actually benefit from. Play winter rules all the time.
6. Reduce your expectations. If you are an average golfer, you play golf twice per week, if you’re lucky. You don’t practice as much as you should, on top of that. You can’t honestly think that your game is exactly what it should be. Don’t be so hard on yourself when you’re not playing well, just enjoy the game itself. Everyone has bad days, even professionals.
If you follow a few of these tips: play the white tees, walk with a golf push cart, give yourself a good lie, don’t play for the best score, play for the honor, and be realistic about your expectations, the game will be much more enjoyable.
